When Triad Guaranty needed a Risk Based reporting system, I assisted by writing a solution in Perl/CGI under Apache running on Linux. The resulting system made the newspapers as the first PMI (Primary Mortgage Company) to allow their loan partners to view Risk Based information.
I also wrote an Oracle Blob based Document Management System for Triad Guaranty for pickup and storage of their EDI Fannie and Freddie files saving Triad over $50,000 from the canned software solutions they were reviewing.
Here's where the REAL INGENUITY came in. -> I wrote the Oracle database blobs in a way that even Oracle forms and Oracle Reports couldn't extract the blob files and they work outside the Visual Basic software that I created to access them. Puzzling every Oracle developer who attempted to test reading their first blob. How did I do it? I removed the EOF terminators prior to saving to the blob and simply put the EOF terminators back when my software extracted them to disk.
"We received a message this morning that the Appworx_prod oracle production box was low on disk space. Eddie's program EZ-mon has turned out to be very helpful."

Web Development Projects
Before I take a look at the technologies I use to build cutting-edge web sites, let's talk a little about building web applications. Web development is the process of building complete website projects, whether for commercial or internal use.
What is a Web Developer
A web developer is one who works in web site development to create pages which show up on web site where the development/creation of these front-end pages and back-end require multiple disciplines in technologies.
If at any point you decide to reach to me just know the area codes I am familiar with for Colorado are '303, 719, 720, 970'. For Web Development assistance you will find my rates very reasonable for Colorado. Now just keep in mind my time zone is 'Eastern Standard Time (EST)' and I know the time zones in Colorado are 'Mountain Standard Time (MST)' in case you wish to call me. Anyway let me continue.
What is a Web Application
As I mentioned previously, I only build database-centric applications. Today I build more web applications than any other type. The growth of the Internet has led to an explosion in demand for web applications, especially those involving database functionality. If you think about it, most sites that you probably interact with (Google Search, Yahoo, Bing, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) all have database capabilities. If a site is dynamic it almost always has a database driving it.
A deeper understanding of a web application is an application that is accessed via a web browser over a network, such as the Internet or an Intranet.
Why Web Applications Make Sense
Not too long ago desktop applications were the standard within many organizations. You would install the application on your personal computer, and then access a shared database located on your internal network. Sharing a URL greatly simplifies availability with no setup.
When I talk about web development (and web applications), I am referring to database-driven websites like content management systems utilizing one or more of the following technologies:
- ASP.NET Framework(Microsoft Technology) ( Our developers ranked top 5% in the world )
- Classic ASP
- Microsoft SQL Server
- PHP, MySQL (Open Source Technologies)
- Java, AJAX and other web technologies
Web Development Business
When I refer to web development often times it is a catch all phrase for the web development business as a whole. Often times with the most important aspect of the process being web design standards.
Why Web Development Standards Matter
There are standards for just about everything, and web development is no different. Our web applications conform to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C.org) standards, guaranteeing interoperability with current and future web technologies. Our applications also comply with government accessibility laws, including Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act. When I develop your web application, you can be sure it will run predictably and be accessible to all users for many years to come across the most common browsers.
I Practice What I Preach
Our pages meet the W3C standard for XHTML and CSS on every page of the sites I create. In my opinion this is one area that separates the amateur web developers from the pros.
You know, I don't make it out to Colorado much but I would like to see the 'Lark Bunting' state bird. I am a little familiar with the Colorado 'Rocky Mountain Columbine' state flower as well. However, I do not know much about Colorado's state tree the 'Blue Spruce'. Fishing is fun to me perhaps I would like reeling in the Colorado 'Greenback Cutthroat Trout' state fish. Anyway, sorry I went off topic. Let me continue.
Managing updates was another problem. Every time a new version was released it had to be rolled out to the user base. Again, this was time-consuming and tedious. Well, along came the Internet and browsers, and the rest is history, as they say.
Old Is New Again
The web browser became the universal user interface for applications of all shapes and sizes. Instead of deploying application changes on each user's PC, these changes could be deployed on the central server. This way everyone always has the latest and greatest version of the application. In many ways, the Internet has turned the IT world on its head, reverting back to a mainframe model of servers and dumb terminals (remember those green screens?). With today's powerful PC's our web applications are far more powerful (and useful) than those old green screen dumb terminals were!
