Connecticut Design Thinking Since 1989

Learn to move at the speed of your customers.

Design thinking taps into capacities we all have but that are overlooked by more conventional problem-solving practices.  It is not only human-centered; it is deeply human in and of itself.

Connecticut Customers

Connecticut Flag

Some information I know about Connecticut is I believe the state was admitted or ratified to the United States around or about 'January 9, 1788'.  Connecticut is located around latitude '41.599998' and longitude of '-72.699997' and has a population of roughly '3,605,944 million'.  If I remember correctly the capital is 'Hartford' and the largest city is 'Bridgeport'.

Okay, think of it this way.  Design thinking relies on our ability to be intuitive, to recognize patterns, to construct ideas that have emotional meaning as well as functionality, to express ourselves in media other than words or symbols.  Nobody wants to run a business based on feeling, intuition, and inspiration, but an overreliance on the rational and the analytical can be just as dangerous.  The integrated approach at the core of the design process suggests a 'third way.'

Case Study

My start in the food industry started when we wrote software for Nabisco to manage from a marketing perspective how they stacked up to the competition.  Critical to this was the ability to monitor competition.  I was given the daunting task of writing a system to monitor at the product and geographical level what competitors were doing with existing product and new product.

I delivered CATS (Competitive Activity Tracking System) which allowed Nabisco and Planters & Life Savers divisions to keep abreast of competitor changes in the market place.  This competitive advantage was unheard of in the industry.  I cannot disclose how competitive information is gathered in the field but the final system, included actual pre-release product images from actual competitor bagged product, competitor price sheets and more.

I also assisted in implementation of IRI Customer Sales syndicated data for in-house processing (savings in excess of $2 million) which the company was utilizing for competitor information as well by loading the IRI data for easy distribution to the entire organization.  This data combined with CATS made for a competitive arsenal still unmatched since 1991.

"Great work Eddie!  Clearly the whole company is benefiting from your VB expertise and your continuous sharing of routines you have developed through Townhall."

How can I help you?

Much of my career has been around branding, customer engagement, localization, packaging, analytics and finding new opportunities to engage with the customer.  This includes tracking a customers shopping behavior, likes and dislikes, eCommerce cart abandonment, web interactions, in-store interactions and mobile interfaces with a marketing 'Call to Action' mindset and much more.

I help brands identify opportunity, create change, and accelerate growth.  A good example of this is when I designed the solutions for Food Lion's wallet and gamification programs.  I created solution documents which IT worked to create the final solution.  Therefore a design change that matters by spotting opportunities in unmet customer needs, cocreating breakthrough products and services, and making organizations more innovative and agile.  A critical part of anyone outside your organization assisting is first 'Knowing the Business of your Business'.  Taking the time to describe your business in depth, customers, consumers, competition is the first step.  I will utilize what I have learned over the years working in over 20+ industries to help your team think more around digital reimagined customer experiences as a catalyst to building the business of tomorrow.

Digital Maturity

Many companies evolve towards being digitally-mature.  This involves recognizing the need, seeing the potential and creating digital solutions that drive your companies success.  I can help you find the crossroads of design and digital.  Often times this requires combining a creative vision with compelling designs to drive innovation and reinvent how you wish to engage your customers.

How Design Drives Growth

A study of 300 companies over five years shows that those who excel at design increased their revenues and total returns to shareholders (TRS) substantially faster than their peers.

Reimagining the real estate industry for the next normal

How one real-estate developer's focus on digital reinvention before coronavirus is helping it navigate the current crisis and beyond.

Team Engagement

In order to reimagine customer experiences and uses digital as the catalyst to build the businesses of tomorrow we need to drive multidisciplinary teams.  End the end we leverage the power of a people-driven innovation approach to address complex challenges.

You know, I don't make it out to Connecticut much but I would like to see the 'Robin' state bird.  I am a little familiar with the Connecticut 'Mountain laurel' state flower as well.  However, I do not know much about Connecticut's state tree the 'White Oak'.  Fishing is fun to me perhaps I would like reeling in the Connecticut 'American Shad' state fish.  Anyway, sorry I went off topic.  Let me continue.

Uncovering Opportunities

Defining and scaling meaningful customer experiences that increase customer satisfaction means understanding the customer and putting yourself in their shoes.  In Agile we use 'Personas' for this.  It is much in the same with Digital Thinking.  Let's explore and uncover opportunities for your clients to create strong connections with your customers.

Muldimensional Alignment

Most businesses I have seen are engrained with technology, media, telecommunications, web, mobile and other sectors where we can use design and customer-centricity to increase growth.
