New Mexico Business Analysis Since 1988
Utilize building blocks to address better customer experiences.
For many years the business analyst role was just part of analysis before coding with no formal title. Years ago software developers were expected to also perform business analysis as part of the development responsibilities. Today a business analyst (BA) is a person who analyzes and documents the market environment, processes, or systems of businesses as an independent role.
Typical duties for a business analysts role include creating detailed business analysis, budgeting, forecasting, planning, monitoring, variance analysis, pricing, reporting and defining business requirements for stakeholders. Related to business analysts are system analysts, who serve as the intermediary between business and IT, assessing whether the IT solution is suitable for the business.

Food Lion had a vendor drop out that was handling a large amount of aggregated data feeds. That broke a lot of systems. I had to assist in BRD and FRD's for the urgency.
"Thanks go to Wilson and Eddie for their hard work to complete these BRD/FRDs."

I have assisted such banking giants as Wells Fargo (Wachovia) and Bank of America in highly visible projects up to an 11 billion dollar Asset Management Package where I was assigned to the project where he led as the Lead Developer Architect, Project Manager and Business Analyst. After throwing me to the wolves in banking and the success we had other banking clients such as Bank of America jumped at the opportunity to have us assist them.
"You are a great asset to the team Wachovia and I am glad I had the pleasure of working with you. If I had my own company, I would love to have you as my IT director. (Note: I created RECMTMS for Jimmy which managed $11 billion in bank assets)"

Know the Business of the Business
Elicitation of requirements and using those requirements to get IT onboard and understand what the client really wants, that is one of the biggest responsibilities for BAs. They have to work as a product owner, even though the business is the product owner.
The BA's life revolves around defining requirements and prioritizing requirements and getting feedback and approval on requirements.
The role of a business analyst is constantly evolving and changing - especially as companies rely more on data to advise business operations. Every company has different issues that a business analyst can address, whether it's dealing with outdated legacy systems, changing technologies, broken processes, poor client or customer satisfaction or siloed large organizations.
You know, I don't make it out to New Mexico much but I would like to see the 'Roadrunner' state bird. I am a little familiar with the New Mexico 'Yucca' state flower as well. However, I do not know much about New Mexico's state tree the 'Pinyon'. Fishing is fun to me perhaps I would like reeling in the New Mexico 'New Mexico cutthroat trout' state fish. Anyway, sorry I went off topic. Let me continue.
Business Analyst Skills
The business analyst position requires both hard skills and soft skills. Business analysts need to know how to pull, analyze and report data trends, and be able to share that information with others and apply it on the business side. Not all business analysts need a background in IT as long as they have a general understanding of how systems, products and tools work. Alternatively, some business analysts have a strong IT background and less experience in business, and are interested in shifting away from IT to this hybrid role.
Some of the most important skills and experience for a business analyst are:
- Oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal and consultative skills
- Facilitation skills
- Analytical thinking and problem solving
- Detail-oriented and capable of delivering a high level of accuracy
- Organizational skills
- Knowledge of business structure
- Stakeholder analysis
- Requirements engineering
- Costs benefit analysis
- Processes modeling
- Understanding of networks, databases and other technology
