We all use energy.  Ok, well most of us do unless you are a strict Amish family.  Also called electricity it is used to power homes, industry, cities and more.  Our reliance on energy high and with 2022 being the year with threatening cyber crimes where the power grid can be attacked we all are asking ourselves 'Why is everything so connected'?

Nebraska Customers

Some information I know about Nebraska is I believe the state was admitted or ratified to the United States around or about 'March 1, 1867'.  Nebraska is located around latitude '41.5' and longitude of '-100' and has a population of roughly '1,961,504 million'.  If I remember correctly the capital is 'Lincoln' and the largest city is 'Omaha'. 

Back to our topic 'Energy'.  Why do gas stations not have generators to pump gas during power outages?  Are EMP's (electromagnetic pulse) real and can they really be used to cause wide spread electrical component loss?  It seems most of us have gained a prepper mindset since the COVID pandemic of 2021 and the Great Reset of 2022 especially when we are so reliant not just on food but energy.

Environmental Awareness

From an environmental awareness and understanding perspective the use of green and renewable energies undeniably plays an essential role in today's world.  Energy from these areas plays a key role in transforming the energy sector and significantly impacts quality of life of different social groups.

Energy companies are in the spotlight regarding the environmental pressure to address the current environmental issues by initiating the sets of social responsibilities.  Energy sector companies are actively adopting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices to address the increased pressure and enablement to manage and prevent the risks of environmental impact at the same time concentrating on the economic growth.  Green energy innovations find theoretical resonance in the diffusion of innovation theories which contribute to corporate social responsibility direction.  Stakeholder engagement and branding link to the stakeholder theory, while financial performance, to the shareholder value theories.  Occupational health and safety theory support the employee safety and corporate culture considerations. 

Sustainable Business Modeling & Reporting

To Sustainable business studies are providing a systematic literature base review identifying CSR initiative measures towards sustainability and proposes a framework of CSR measurements in the energy sector.  The framework combines the Search, Appraisal, Synthesis, and Analysis (SALSA) method together with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and PSALSAR (Protocol, Search, Appraisal, Synthesis, Analysis and Report).  Moreover, for setting the research scope, PICOC (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Context) is applied.  As a result, eleven CSR measures for the energy sector were identified.  The measurements were classified into 4 pillars: environmental pillar, stakeholder communication and external image, financial pillar, and organizational pillar.  The environmental impact and GHG reduction align with the ecological modernization theories.  These measures, selected through theoretical lenses and systematic review, contribute to shaping a sustainable energy landscape.  Furthermore, the research results were discussed, and the future research agenda together with policy recommendations were provided.

What is Green Energy?

Let me dive into green energy for a minute.  Green energy is any energy type that is generated from natural resources, such as sunlight, wind or water.  It often comes from renewable energy sources although there are some differences between renewable and green energy.

The key with these energy resources are that they don't harm the environment through factors such as releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

How Does it Work?

As a source of energy, green energy often comes from renewable energy technologies such as solar energy, wind power, geothermal energy, biomass and hydroelectric power.  Each of these technologies works in different ways, whether that is by taking power from the sun, as with solar panels, or using wind turbines or the flow of water to generate energy.

What Does it Mean?

In order to be deemed green energy, a resource cannot produce pollution, such as is found with fossil fuels.  This means that not all sources used by the renewable energy industry are green.  For example, power generation that burns organic material from sustainable forests may be renewable, but it is not necessarily green, due to the CO2 produced by the burning process itself. 

You know, I don't make it out to Nebraska much but I would like to see the 'Western Meadowlark' state bird.  I am a little familiar with the Nebraska 'Goldenrod' state flower as well.  However, I do not know much about Nebraska's state tree the 'Cottonwood'.  Fishing is fun to me perhaps I would like reeling in the Nebraska 'Channel Catfish' state fish.  Anyway, sorry I went off topic.  Let me continue.

Green energy sources are usually naturally replenished, as opposed to fossil fuel sources like natural gas or coal, which can take millions of years to develop.  Green sources also often avoid mining or drilling operations that can be damaging to eco-systems.
