Proudly Serving Ohio

Ohio SQL Server Development Since 1995

Stay passionate about delivering innovative enterprise solutions.

My first experience with SQL Server was in 1995 when I was a Visual Basic developer for Nabisco Planters Lifesaves of RJR.  The Nabsico SQL Servers were at that time running on OS/2 Warp.

SQL Server is a relational database management system created by Microsoft through it's partnership with Sybase.  The Microsoft partnership with Sybase and Microsoft was able to keep older versions pursuant to contract and continue to develop SQL Server but not under the Sybase name.  In face initial versions of SQL Server ran best on IBM OS/2 before the Windows platform.

Ohio Customers

Ohio Flag

Some information I know about Ohio is I believe the state was admitted or ratified to the United States around or about 'March 1, 1803'.  Ohio is located around latitude '40.367474' and longitude of '-82.996216' and has a population of roughly '11,799,448 million'.  If I remember correctly the capital is 'Columbus' and the largest city is 'Columbus'.

In fact, SQL Server is intended to compete against Oracle and IBM.   The latest versions of SQL Server features include self-tuning, self organizing, and self maintaining.  All with the goal to provide near-zero downtime.

Why Use SQL Server?

SQL Server includes features usually reserved for high-end database products.  For example:

  1. Replication (Data Transformation Services )
  2. Full Text Search
  3. Analysis Services
  4. Reporting Services
  5. Data Workflows

First Med EMS Ambulatory services needed a custom document management solution that encompassed scanning in-house ScanTron styled documents via ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) scanners.  The goal was to forgo the purchase of expensive ScanTron equipment and recognize scanned OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and OMR (Optical Mark Recognition).

My solution saved First Med EMS over 100,000 the first month work began on the project with a home-grown Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) which automatically scanned both sides of pages through the Automatic Document Feeders.  His scanning engine was smart enough to ignore blank pages on the Epson GT-S50 scanners tested.  Resulting scans were slammed into a SQL Server Full Text search database and saved as OLE Blob Image format.

Saving images in the database resolved a huge industry problem of file pointers to disk locations which was slower on retrieval difficult when locating files where folders could have 200,000+ images or more making research painfully slow. I utilized Lead Tools Recognition engine to zone out all OCR/OMR areas for extraction of key values into the database with all appropriate key and search values filled in.

"I knew when I interviewed Eddie, he was what the organization needed.  His expertise proved me to be right.  He was invaluable and created a Scantron replacement system we are very proud of.  Eddie also created a drivers manifest with turn-by-turn directions and built a location system for our ambulances."

I have assisted such banking giants as Wells Fargo (Wachovia) and Bank of America in highly visible projects up to an 11 billion dollar Asset Management Package where I was assigned to the project where he led as the Lead Developer Architect, Project Manager and Business Analyst.  After throwing me to the wolves in banking and the success we had other banking clients such as Bank of America jumped at the opportunity to have us assist them.

"You are a great asset to the team Wachovia and I am glad I had the pleasure of working with you.  If I had my own company, I would love to have you as my IT director.  (Note: I created RECMTMS for Jimmy which managed $11 billion in bank assets)"

My start in the food industry started when we wrote software for Nabisco to manage from a marketing perspective how they stacked up to the competition.  Critical to this was the ability to monitor competition.  I was given the daunting task of writing a system to monitor at the product and geographical level what competitors were doing with existing product and new product.

I delivered CATS (Competitive Activity Tracking System) which allowed Nabisco and Planters & Life Savers divisions to keep abreast of competitor changes in the market place.  This competitive advantage was unheard of in the industry.  I cannot disclose how competitive information is gathered in the field but the final system, included actual pre-release product images from actual competitor bagged product, competitor price sheets and more.

I also assisted in implementation of IRI Customer Sales syndicated data for in-house processing (savings in excess of $2 million) which the company was utilizing for competitor information as well by loading the IRI data for easy distribution to the entire organization.  This data combined with CATS made for a competitive arsenal still unmatched since 1991.

"Great work Eddie!  Clearly the whole company is benefiting from your VB expertise and your continuous sharing of routines you have developed through Townhall."

One cannot deny that SQL Server offers a lot of bang for the buck, when compared to IBM or Oracle.  Ilike how it is tightly integrates with Windows and it works beautifully with Visual Studio.

Microsoft DB-Lib Legacy

DBLIB (stands for DataBase Library) is a Microsoft proprietary Call Level Interface consisting of C functions and macros (compare to Oracle OCI) that can be used to access Microsoft SQL server 2000 from the applications programmed in third-generation languages (mostly C).  It was the original interface, and it became a legacy interface with introduction of Microsoft SQL Server version 7.0.

The DB-Library API has not been enhanced beyond the level of SQL Server version 6.5, which means that even if you are able to use it for communication with Microsoft SQL Server 2000, you would be limited to only the feature set of its 6.5 version (which was all the rave back in 1997).

The principles of DBLIB do not differ much from Oracle's OCI interface: you include the header files to get all the definitions into your C program, then you compile and link it.  Samples of the DBLIB applications are installed with the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in default directory \Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Devtools\Samples\DBLib.

DBLIB is the fastest interface to the MS SQL Server.  You can find more help about programming DBLIB in the Microsoft documentation, but keep in mind that this interface quickly becomes obsolete (though you might not have much choice if your server is version 6.5, or 6, or - just don't tell anyone - version 4.2, capable of running in MS-DOS and OS/2 environments).

If at any point you decide to reach to me just know the area codes I am familiar with for Ohio are '216, 220, 234, 330, 380, 419, 440, 513, 567, 614, 740, 937'.  For Sql Server assistance you will find my rates very reasonable for Ohio.  Now just keep in mind my time zone is 'Eastern Standard Time (EST)' and I know the time zones in Ohio are 'Eastern Standard Time (EST)' in case you wish to call me.  Anyway let me continue.

Why Partner With Me?

I've been creating SQL Server-based applications since the Sybase days.  The majority of enterprise class applications we've written were based on SQL Server.  These applications are all fast, secure and stable.  I have many years of real-world, large enterprise SQL Server experience, including:

  1. Experts in every version of SQL Server back to OS/2
  2. Extensive experience with Data Conversion, Integration and Reporting
  3. Years of Data Scrubbing / Data Massaging
  4. Experience with large Full Text Search eCommerce databases with over 10 million skews
  5. Many projects large Windows projects with connectivity to SQL Server

You know, I don't make it out to Ohio much but I would like to see the 'Cardinal' state bird.  I am a little familiar with the Ohio 'Scarlet carnation' state flower as well.  However, I do not know much about Ohio's state tree the 'Ohio Buckeye'.  Fishing is fun to me perhaps I would like reeling in the Ohio 'No Official Fish' state fish.  Anyway, sorry I went off topic.  Let me continue.

Expert in SQL Server (All Versions)

I have been developing in SQL Server since Version 1.0 when Microsoft partnered with Sybase.  SQL Server has grown over the years to compete directly with Oracle on a playing field no other database comes close to venturing.  MySQL is on the move though but still not able to keep up with the features and speed of Oracle and SQL Server.   I have the experience, so call us today to get your coding started.

Need Assistance?

Ever have an idea about a product or service but lack the ability to develop that idea?  Are you looking for a reliable person/firm to build your software?  Perhaps you are in need of someone to manage projects and teams?
