Data is a key component to any location-based application. But acquiring good data and then implementing and maintaining it is easier said than done. My GIS Library aims to remove data acquisition, integration, and maintenance obstacles for geo-developers by providing access to premium data sets through the GIS platform. Integrate national geospatial data sets such as parcel, neighborhood, and municipal boundaries in mere minutes and with minimal code.
Alaska Customers

Some information I know about Alaska is I believe the state was admitted or ratified to the United States around or about 'January 3, 1859'. Alaska is located around latitude '66.160507' and longitude of '-153.369141' and has a population of roughly '733,391 million'. If I remember correctly the capital is 'Juneau' and the largest city is 'Anchorage'.
ESRI Loosing Ground
With the advent of Google Maps one has to ask what value does ESRI give me? Frankly ESRI's product line is difficult to understand and licensing model cumbersome. While ESRI offers mapping layers which are more complex and feature rich than Google Maps. Google is quickly closing the gap as well as other mapping companies.
Word of Mouth
Take a moment to read related case studies and testimonials below around my experience with Esri Gis.
Case Study
First Med EMS Ambulatory services needed a custom document management solution that encompassed scanning in-house ScanTron styled documents via ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) scanners. The goal was to forgo the purchase of expensive ScanTron equipment and recognize scanned OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and OMR (Optical Mark Recognition).
My solution saved First Med EMS over 100,000 the first month work began on the project with a home-grown Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) which automatically scanned both sides of pages through the Automatic Document Feeders. His scanning engine was smart enough to ignore blank pages on the Epson GT-S50 scanners tested. Resulting scans were slammed into a SQL Server Full Text search database and saved as OLE Blob Image format.
Saving images in the database resolved a huge industry problem of file pointers to disk locations which was slower on retrieval difficult when locating files where folders could have 200,000+ images or more making research painfully slow. I utilized Lead Tools Recognition engine to zone out all OCR/OMR areas for extraction of key values into the database with all appropriate key and search values filled in.
"I knew when I interviewed Eddie, he was what the organization needed. His expertise proved me to be right. He was invaluable and created a Scantron replacement system we are very proud of. Eddie also created a drivers manifest with turn-by-turn directions and built a location system for our ambulances."

When the Parks and Recreation of the City of Greensboro needed a work order system, they came to me to develop it. Once that system was developed, they came to me for a survey system for the city buses, then Housing Community and Development utilized his expertise to spec out a new system for them. Whether city or federal government we can help.
"Thanks for all the good work! The ESRI mapping component is working great!"

In our experience ESRI reps typically don't always answer basic product and licensing questions the same. Perhaps because they are as confused about their product as we are. Google on the other hand makes it simple and open source developers expand the usefulness of Google Maps.
Best Choice: Street Data Updates (Google)
Google Maps is hosted by Google and is FREE. While ESRI has a web model it is expensive and typically requires a full time employee to manage. Especially if you select a desktop solution where your hosting the data yourself and having to receive ESRI updates for the data which can sometimes be corrupt upon download.
If at any point you decide to reach to me just know the area code I work within for Alaska is '907'. For Esri Gis assistance you will find my rates very reasonable for Alaska. Now just keep in mind my time zone is 'Eastern Standard Time (EST)' and I know the time zones in Alaska are 'Alaska Standard Time (AKST)' in case you wish to call me. Anyway let me continue.
In fact did you know that Google updates their map street lines just as often as ESRI? ESRI buys their updated street lines from a third party. So does Google and Google is FREE.
Best Choice: Basic Maps, Directional Mapping (Google)
Google Maps is the best solution for basic maps, direction turn by turn maps from an address to an address. You might ask though what about best route with Google. My answer and Googles to that question is Google always routes for best route.
Best Choice: Features (Google)
Let's face it ESRI will never catch up to Google on the abundance of useful features for the public in general. Better yet is Googles ability to add functionality beyond what ESRI could hope to come close to for public consumption.
From a city government, municipality perspective while Google doesn't offer as many map layers as ESRI Google is quickly closing in.
Best Choice: Pricing (Google)
FREE is good but is it always good. No! But in the case of Google and their quality and past performance. Yes! Now how about if Google starts pricing out Google Maps developer functionality like they have with Google Translate. Not a problem. It will always be cheaper than ESRI.
You know, I don't make it out to Alaska much but I would like to see the 'Willow Ptarmigan' state bird. I am a little familiar with the Alaska 'Forget-me-not' state flower as well. However, I do not know much about Alaska's state tree the 'Sitka Spruce'. Fishing is fun to me perhaps I would like reeling in the Alaska 'Largemouth Bass' state fish. Anyway, sorry I went off topic. Let me continue.
